Enersea Integrates Nitrogen Generator to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Enersea is supporting an E&P operator in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from an existing offshore gas production platform through the integration of a nitrogen generator. The multidisciplinary engineering project is now nearing completion.
The platform uses natural gas as blanket gas to maintain a safe, non-explosive atmosphere in process equipment and storage tanks. During normal operations, methane is released through the vent system, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.
By replacing natural gas with nitrogen as blanket gas, these emissions can be significantly reduced. The nitrogen generator produces nitrogen by separating it from ambient air and can also be used to purge both the low-pressure and high-pressure vent systems.
With its multidisciplinary team, Enersea is responsible for the complete engineering scope, including Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Piping and Project Management.
As part of the project, Enersea is developing a detailed 3D integration model, defining the optimal location of the nitrogen generator skid, pipeline routing and all required tie-ins with the existing platform.
In addition, Enersea will deliver the complete Bill of Materials, specifying all components required for the installation and integration of the nitrogen generator piping.
The project demonstrates how targeted upgrades to existing offshore infrastructure can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining safe and efficient operations.
